Paxton House is found just over the Northumberland border in Berwickshire, a stunning Palladian house with pre-eminent collections of Chippendale furniture, Georgian costume and paintings from Scotland’s National Collection. A real gem of a location just off the A1 it’s super easy to find and is a great day out for all the family.
Built in 1758 the house is adorned with stunning features, art collections, historic furniture and stories all of which you can learn when taking one of their house tours. Super informative and fascinating to learn about the history behind the building and the items they have on display.
There are also impressive grounds to explore here with woodlands, a lovely walk down to the River Tweed with boat trips available and a boathouse area, an adventure play area for children and gorgeous lawns to enjoy a picnic. Dogs are allowed in the grounds of the house just not inside.
Paxton House holds many events during the season with children’s activities and there is a lovely tearoom to enjoy on your visit here. They are open all week, 10-4 until October. House and Grounds tickets are priced at £15 for adults, £7 for children with concessions and family tickets available. You can also buy a grounds ticket only if you aren’t visiting the house.
